After graduating, Julie joined WHSV in October 1997 as a news anchor and worked there until 1999. Later on, she joined WBRE-TV for one year but left the station in 2000 for WFSB TV. Banderas worked there as a news reporter for almost 2 years. She then joined WNYW-TV (Fox 5) in the beginning of 2002 where she served as a newscaster.
